WHAT IS IT? Reiki is an ancient and revered practice which promotes and accelerates healing and balancing of the body, mind and spirit. Reiki is a Japanese word that translates as "Universal Life Energy". A Reiki Master and practitioner has trained to focus and direct this energy. |
Reiki is not a spiritual belief and in no way contradicts any individual religious belief. It is instead, a simple and gentle transfer of energy that accelerates your body's ability to heal itself. It opens the embodied mind and spirit to the causes of disease and pain, to the necessity for taking responsibility for one's own life, and to the joys of ever changing, yet constant balance of wellness and harmony.
THE EXPERIENCE
A Reiki session is often experienced as gentle, relaxing and meditative. While wearing comfortable clothes, the client lies down on the table or sits in a comfortable position. A complete treatment lasts a little over an hour. |
During this time, the Reiki practitioner allows their hands to rest gently for 3-5 minutes or more on a number of positions corresponding to the major organs, chakras, and endocrine glands. The client need only relax and receive. One often settles into a profound state of relaxation, peace, and wellbeing. People experience Reiki as gentleness, safety, and unconditional love. Many sense a feeling of heat from the practitioners hands, emotions are sometimes released, and the energy of Reiki knows where to go, supporting ones' wellbeing, balance and harmony. The practitioner is a conduit for, not the source of Reiki energy. An intake form is completed at the beginning of the session, you settle in on the table, and Gwen will play the flute as a way to transition from busy life to restorative harmony. Afterward, there is space for reflective silence together, before any observations are shared. Gwen does not offer advice or counsel, her coaching, teaching and performing hats are in another room, and she is not a medical professional. |
